Bent Metal on Two Cars in Berlin, Germany

Skating and art have long been tightly connected, whether through the graphics on boards or the transformation of the spaces skaters use. It’s no surprise, then, that established artists sometimes create pieces specifically for skaters.

Bent Metal on Two Cars is a sculptural skate feature by Florentina Holzinger from 2024. At first glance, it looks like a fairly ordinary half-pipe. On closer inspection, however, two upside-down cars are visible beneath it, their wheels protruding up through the ramp.

The cars are not replicas. They are real Opels that have been stripped of their interiors and welded shut to prevent entry. What would otherwise be scrap metal now quite literally supports skate culture, spending the end of their days as part of a functional artwork in the park.
